Our Three-Step Squirrel Removal Process:

Step One - Squirrel Trapping

To start the resolution of your squirrel issue, our Animal Removal specialist will begin trapping. These squirrel traps will be set in your attic, walls, crawlspace, and subfloor depending on your property's construction. Our Dallas Squirrel technicians customize the squirrel trapping placement and process for each property. Trapping requires two service appointments per week for up to two weeks. This sometimes changes based on the type of infestation and the number of squirrels. We safely trap squirrels using live cages and safely release them back into their natural habitat. All of the traps are set before the initial exclusion work is started so that the squirrels are not left without a food source. We use squirrel specific live traps for the animal’s safety. Many clients and our competitors use rat traps for rodent issues without success. The property must be completely sealed up after the traps are set to successfully trap the squirrels. They prefer their natural food source outside of your home and will continue to use it until they are no longer able.

Step Two - Squirrel Exclusion

The second step in our squirrel removal process is to seal up all of the entry points with metal-based products. This is done both on the roof and ground level of the property. All of the currently used entry points and potential entry points will be sealed up. This includes attic vents, chimney caps, garage doors, roof returns, and more. This will not only prevent new squirrels from entering your home but will eliminate the food source to the squirrels that are in your attic when we seal it up. The squirrels in the attic will then search for an internal food source and find themselves in one of our squirrel specific cages. It is imperative to understand how many entries points your home has related to the current squirrel issue and the entry points that can be a future issue. Brinker not only seals up the areas related to your current problem but ALL potential entry points so that you will never have any type of animal invade your home in the future.

All of the exclusion work is performed by our Dallas squirrel expert technicians rather than sub-contractors like many of our competitors. The technician that did the initial inspection will perform all three steps of our process. The exclusion work done to the property will be painted to match the home maximize the home aesthetics.

Step Three - Attic Treatment And Restoration

After all of the squirrels have been removed from the attic space, properly decontaminating is absolutely necessary. Most of the wildlife species found in homes today have a variety of diseases and are naturally dirty animals. If your home currently has a squirrel issue, chances are there have been other rodents in your attic previously if not currently. They leave trails of urine and feces throughout the attic space and a strong scent of pheromones. The pheromones lingering in the attic invites more squirrels back into your home because the animals will believe it is still a nesting site.

Our anti-microbial fogging treatment will completely sanitize the attic space and removed pheromones. This is done after we have verified that there are no longer any squirrels living inside the home. The treatment will kill any hazardous spores contained in urine and feces. The treatment will also kill any fleas, mites, or roaches that are often brought along with the wildlife. Applying the attic treatment will ensure that your entire attic space is properly decontaminated.

In severe cases of wildlife infestation, it is necessary to do a complete attic restoration. This includes completely removing all of the existing insulation and blowing in new insulation. This will completely remove all urine, feces, and old nesting sites. Once all of the old insulation is removed, we will inspect all of your electric wiring, ductwork, and condition of the attic space. We will then blow in new fiberglass insulation into your attic using high-quality R-38 value. This ensures that your property is completely decontaminated and now more energy efficient.

Signs Of Squirrel Infestation

Squirrels are known to be destructive to homes and attic spaces while living there. They can cause damage to the HVAC system, attic ventilation, the electrical systems in your home, and cause house fires. If you see any of these signs, do not hesitate to call Brinker Animal Removal today.

  • Chewing on the exterior of your home
  • Holes in fascia and soffit
  • Scratching or thumbing sounds in your ceilings or walls
  • Squirrel droppings
  • Squirrels regularly on your roof or in your gutters

Squirrels will leave dropping and urinate all over the attic insulation inside the attic space. It is very common to see chewing on wood on the exterior of the home. Squirrels like to chew on wood constantly so even if there is not a hole, it doesn’t mean they do not have an entry point somewhere else. Squirrels commonly chew holes in sheetrock ceilings or walls when they start to search for more food. Squirrels are much cleaner than rats or other rodents so you will see neat trails in the attic rather than then random trails everywhere.

About Squirrels

Squirrels love to live in attic spaces, crawl spaces, and chimneys. Squirrel’s teeth never stop growing so they have a constant itch to chew on wires, wood, baseboards, and ductwork. Squirrels invade homes in search of a warm dry place and attics are an excellent place for them to stay. They can easily access homes by climbing onto the roof from trees or up gutter downspouts. There are three different squirrel species in Dallas, Plano, and surrounding areas. The fox squirrel, southern flying squirrel, and ground squirrel are commonly seen in Dallas. These squirrels are interesting creatures in the wild but are commonly invade homes as the metroplex expands into their natural habitat.

Fox squirrels, are the most common of the tree squirrels and will be heard in attic spaces during the day. The sound of scratching or walking in the attic space at night time is typically from rats or raccoons. Squirrels build nests that can be seen at the top of trees and look like a large bundle of leaves. Their nests differ from bird’s nests in size and will be made of leaves rather than twigs. Squirrels enjoy feeding on nuts, fruit, seeds, and berries. They have been known to build the bank of food sources in safe places to eat at a later time in holes in your backyard or in your attic. They do not only gather food to eat at that moment but food for the future. Their sense of smell will take them back to the food source at a later time to eat when they need it.

Squirrels generally live in tree trunks and tree nests, but in urban areas nest in soffit holes, attic spaces, chimneys, and crawl spaces. Squirrels breed throughout the year, but primarily in July-September and December-February. The baby squirrels are born in one to two months and will remain in the nest for up to an additional two months. During this time the baby squirrels are blind, hairless, and slow. The squirrels live in families while developing at a young age and then venture off on their own. At the age of three months, the baby squirrels will be out on their own and be an adult size at six months. At the age of one year, they will be sexually mature and start reproducing.

Squirrel Damage And Health Risks

Squirrels have caused thousands of dollars of damage to many properties we have while taking up residency in their attic or walls. They chew wires, ductwork, and wood throughout the property. The chewing of wires not only damages HVAC systems and appliances but can put a home at risk for a fire. Attic insulation can also be costly and squirrels can sometimes damage insulation to an entire attic beyond repair. Our Dallas Squirrel Removal team is here to help stop your squirrel issue before it gets out of control.

Diseases and infections that squirrels can pass on to humans and pets are commonly transmitted through bites, urine, feces, and parasites. The most commonly known zoonotic disease spread by squirrels is rabies. Our squirrel trapping techniques are safely done to prevent the transmission of these diseases. We also use an attic treatment to kill any bacteria or parasites left in the attic space by the squirrels.
